Sébastien PEILLON studied at EPF – Engineering School, where he graduated in 2018 in conventional and sustainable energy. After an end of studies project at EPF with Christophe RODIET on the subject, a thesis about thermal characterization of thin film by electrothermal methods was developed in partnership with EPF, starting 2019.

Indeed, knowledge of the thermal properties of materials is often a technological barrier to the development of new technologies. Difficulties (experimental and theoretical) arise in this respect, for thin films thermal properties are correlated to their thickness – their microstructure – as well as to temperature. Other challenges – such as model biases, semitransparency, low signal-to-noise ratio, significant thermal contact resistances, or very short thermal response times – require the implementation of specific methods for thermal characterization.

The thesis objective is then the development and implementation of electrothermal methods for the thermal characterization of dielectric thin films.
